Can I use a new name without a Deed Poll?

You can use a new name without a Deed Poll, but organisations such as banks, building societies, UK Passport Service, DVLA, mortgage provider, credit card companies etc. would not amend their records to show your new name and you would not be able to obtain reissued documents in your new name.

You could ask friends and colleagues to call you by your new name and you could leave all of your official records in your current name, but we know from experience that this ‘dual-identity’ can lead to confusion.

When you consider how quick, easy and inexpensive it is to obtain your legal Deed Poll document, there is no reason not to have your name changed properly.
