Do we need a Deed Poll if we want to hyphenate (double-barrell) our last names after we are married?
Yes, both the husband and wife will each need their own Deed Poll if they decide to hyphenate their last names after they are married.
However, if the husband applies for his Deed Poll well in advance of the wedding, and his new double-barrelled last name appears on the marriage certificate, his wife is legally entitled to adopt this new name after marriage. There is then no need for her to apply for her own Deed Poll, saving the cost of one Deed Poll.
